I don't know EMET but after a quick read I see that other softwares are experiencing issues with it (i.e. Google Chrome browser), so I suspect it's some kind of a "false positive".
Changes between the two versions you reported mostly regards external components (BASS libraries) and translations (they are text files, so no problems here).
I hope you're able to make a test for me, to confirm that the malfunction is related to external libs:
- install VMS version 1.12
- open folder C:\Windows\System32\VirtualMIDISynth (and C:\Windows\SysWOW64\VirtualMIDISynth) and make a copy (ZIP) of files BASS.dll and BASSMIDI.dll
- now install VMS 1.13.2
- reopen folders below and overwrite BASS.dll and BASSMIDI.dll installed by 1.13.2 with the one of 1.12 you've archived before (you should be an admin to replace files into that folders)
- run Windows Media Player and see if the issue disappears

I have the same problem on VMWare, using Windows Vista
I tried using the 1.12 with the DLLs from the 1.13.2, it just works fine, but the problem reappears if I use the 1.13.2 with the 1.12 DLLs
