Sadly the underlying synth

Sadly the underlying synth library doesn't support SFZ file format, and implementing it on my side is not possible.

There's a thread on un4seen forum asking for it... maybe you could join there and support that request ;)

Hello,

Hello,

After a few hours spent in internet I found Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra in sf2 format

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1262167

The problem for me is that all sounds are separate in one voice

Is there a way to join them in one bank?

TIA

Sonatina Soundfont (sf2) available at Newgrounds

http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic/1262167

I'm not sure you will get this working with Virtual Midi Synth directly but the soundfonts available at the link above do work with Reason's NN-XT, and soundfont players such as Cakewalk's sfz, sfz+ and Jez Price's soundfont player Font!SF2 at  http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jez.price/players.htm

Good luck with it!

Kind regards

Neil

Sonatina - joining the soundfonts together?

Hi

One solution is to build your own hybrid soundfont - I believe this can be done with Kenneth Lundt's Viena soundfont editor.

http://www.synthfont.com/

You will probably want to start with a relatively complete soundfont you are already mostly happy with and then replace the existing orchestra sounds with the Sonatina sounds. I haven't tried this myself yet but I think it's possible, if a little timeconsuming.

You will probably find it easier to find an existing soundfont with reasonable classical sounds in it already, rather than create your own, at least initially.

Try a free soundfont like these:

http://www.ntonyx.com/soft/32MbGMStereo.sf2

http://www.synthfont.com/SoundFonts/bennetng_AnotherGS_v2-1.sfArk

http://www.synthfont.com/SoundFonts/Chaos_V20.sfArk

Note SfArk files are compressed - you will also need a utility to convert .sfArk files to .sf2 files from here:

http://www.melodymachine.com/sites/melodymachine.com/files/sfark_setup.exe

Once you find a soundfont you are happy with, add it to the textfile you use to launch the virtual player and you should be good to go.

Regards

Re: Sonatina - joining the soundfonts together?

I just joined that sfz at un4seen forum

At this moment, anyone who like to use sfz instruments in VMS can be done by converting them to soundfont.

It is very easy, an example i recomended, using Polyphone sf2 editor (it's free), open the the sfz file and save it as sf2. That's it.

Current bassmidi.dll (2.4.9.0 and newer added support for sfz soundfonts). Source: http://www.un4seen.com/

Re: Sonatina - joining the soundfonts together?

I managed to load an SFZ in CoolSoft VMS 1.13.2 via config file edit and aparently CoolSoft VMS supports these kind of soundfonts (Probably 1.11.0 and newer,  I haven't tested 2.0 Alpha yet). That is probably because it officially got implemented in bassmidi.dll during 2014 (staring from 2.4.9.0 probably). I couldn't find an SFZ soundfont, so i had to use Awave Studio to convert it to SFZ

Re: Sonatina - joining the soundfonts together?

Thanks for getting back on this.
I saw that BASSMIDI added SFZ soundfont support some months ago, but I hadn't the time to experiment with it and, mostly, I don't have any knowledge on SFZ format.

Adding SFZ native support to VMS should not be so difficult: I think I only have to add *.sfz to supported file extensions.

Since I'd like to test it a little bit, could you please link a simple documentation/tutorial over SFZ and also some sample SFZ files to play with?
