Re: Coolsoft MIDI Driver

I'll try it. But permissions can be added only to the whole registry section, not to an individual value. And this section has driver descriptions not only for audio, but for many other services.

You should change permissions to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 and the corresponding 32bit one (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node).
It contains configuration about MIDI devices, audio devices and some (old) audio/video codecs.

Re: Coolsoft MIDI Driver
Add a new Deny Write permission for Everyone (deny rules should win over allow ones) and reboot.

How to do it? I can add only Deny Read or Deny Full access.

PS, looks like I found it in special permissions. Is it enough to deny removing and storing values?

You're right, registry permissions are less configurable than filesystem ones.

It should; if not, take note of the current permissions set, remove them all and add an Everyone: Read ACL only.

PS: I'm working on a fix to let the driver work on newer Windows versions.
It could take a while, but I'm confident it will fix it.

Any progress at all on this fix?  Still having issues and while its fixable just constantly reinstalling the driver very frequently,it is a major pain in the booty...

I appreciate all your work and attention to this problem...It's a great resource and I'd love to continue using it..

Thx!!

Yes, it was enough, the driver is still installed without any problems.

I'm still having issues...Not very computer savvy and not sure what to do on my end to fix it...I am using the latest version of windows 10

Has this been corrected? If so,would love to hear the fix....Still constantly reinstalling the driver frequently enough over and over again to start looking at other alternatives to this program that, before this issue, was an excellent midi soundfont player...

Still no fix, sorry. The only workaround available is to change permissions to the registry key (as reported above).
I've found why newer Windows 10 versions have this new behavior, but fixing it could require a lot of time.

I'll work "full time" on it just after version 2.9.0 is closed.

Re: Coolsoft MIDI Driver

That sounds awesome mate...Thank you for addressing the issue and giving attention to the matter....Love the program....I used to run all my sound and drum modules, hardware synths through MIDI and a mountain of 5 DIN PIN cables...This put a halt to all that...
