Some problems I had

I'm using MIDI because I play Doom source ports. I have an onboard Realtek chipset which probably sucks, even with some newer drivers I found. I say it sucks because I get pops/crackles with the BASSMIDI driver and SoftSynth. The default Windows mixer works fine and I recently discovered the TiMidity++ Windows Synthesizer, which also works with no audio problems. I'm using a SC-55 soundfont by Patch93.

That's one reason I stopped using SoftSynth, another is that it is preloading the soundfont which results in a lag/freeze of about 1 second, because I'm using a 64mb soundfont.

Here's the solution: Dolby Drivers for Realtek chipsets
