As far as I can see, the only difference between the two is the "MIDI player" used: with synth you're using your sequencer while with MIDI Converter you're using the VMS internal MIDI player.
I suppose you're exporting the MIDI from your sequencer and load this MIDI into VMS converter, right?
Are you sure you're exporting all of the MIDI data, including SYSEx and initializations?
Could you try to play this MIDI through VMS (I mean not using the sequencer but playing the exported MIDI through VanBasco/WMP + VMS) and check if you have the same bug?

I've installed van basco - I listen my midi file with it - it's ok
after I've tried "Converter MIDi file" and now it's ok too
curious !!!
