Hi, sorry for the delay.
Can you check if "Microsoft GM Synth" works the same way or is different?
This way we can tell if the "bug" is due to VMS or Acid Music Studio.
Again, is there a trial version of Acid Music Studio available so I can try it on my side?

The Microsoft GM Synth works exactly the same as CoolSoft. Both show up on the list of Midi outputs as a Device rather than a synth. There is a box that makes it possible to input the corresponding numbers for the instruments but this is a bit tedious.

Still can't reproduce it on my side.
It should be great if you could post a video or some screenshots of the actions needed to make it happen...
