Slowdowns

I just installed 1.7.0 on a Win 7 Pro 64-bit system (did not have a previous version).  Worked fine for about 2 minutes, I was able to browse folders and display PDF titles and everything I was hoping for.  But then my system started to slow down noticably.  I was able to open folders with no PDF files and display the folder contents, but when I opened any folder that contained a PDF, no folder contents would display and the progress bar would just keep scrolling through the folder name area, forever, no contents displayed.  But then non-PDF folders still opened fine.  I rebooted.  Things got worse.  I couldn't open any folders at all now, I just get the spinning wheel when I double click a folder, and I couldn't run any programs either, just the spinning wheel.  I rebooted again and immediately went into control panel and uninstalled this program and rebooted.  All is back to normal, no issues at all now.  I would love to get this working, I really need to see PDF titles.  Any ideas?

Re: Slowdowns

There could be a PDF file causing an unespected behavior/hang when parsed.

You could try to parse your PDFs with the command-line version:

  • install PDFPropertyExtension 1.7.0
  • open a command prompt (no need for Admin rights)
  • cd to the folder with PDFs
  • run this command: PdfPropertyExtension.exe *.pdf
  • it will start parsing all of your PDF files and (should) hang on one or more of them

If you find the file causing the issue, please attach it here (or post it through the contact form if you don't want it to be public)

Re: Slowdowns

I really needed to get the PDF data to display, and after seeing there is a new version, I decided to give it another try with version 1.8.1.

It's been running for a while now and none of the problems I experienced with the older version have reappeared, so this update might finally have done the trick!

PDF filenames display instantly now, just like they used to with older Windows.  Thank you!
