I've been trying to get this soundfont into my virtualmidisynth but run into problems trying to unzip it. I've tried to unzip it with sfPack but it doesn't work. Do I need to do it with sfArk? If so, what is the difference between sfPack and sfArk?

Yes, you must use sfArk to uncompress it.
The link here points to Synthfont website page that also contains it.

Anyway, you can find sfArk here: http://melodymachine.com/sfark.htm
