[SOLVED] Big Windows 10 update seems to have produced a problem

Hi Claudio,

I received a big Windows 10 update this morning, and presume everyone else who is using it did as well, and it seems to have affected VMS 2 - at least, in so far as I use it. All was well last night and I've only recently decided this evening to continue with my latest piece in NoteWorthy Composer (NWC) and was immediatwly informed that attempting to open VMS failed. I went into VMS and all looks well in the 'About' as follows (copied): -

Windows 10 Pro (64 bit) (10.0.15063)

VirtualMIDISynth 2.0.0. (x64)

Memory (MB): total 8085, free 5435 (68%)

Available devices: 1

* VirtualMIDISynth #1:

Active voices: 0

Rendering time: 0%

Update rate (ms): 0

However, after returning to NWC, I noticed that VMS had disappeared from the NWC MIDI Play Options list and I can find no way to restore it.

I hope you can assist.

The gremlins appear to have struck.

One line in the "about' list is incorrect yet I'm certain I typed it in properly.

The incorrect line should have been ('free' was  missing) :-

* VirtualMIDISynth #1:

I'll try rebooting the sytem and see if that fixes it.

Maybe Win10 Creators Update had rebuilt the MIDI registry part from scratch, removing VMS registration.

Have a look at this registry key, if you can: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
You should have a midi1..9 key with a VirtualMIDISynth.dll value.

If not, the easiest way to restore it is to reinstall VMS.

Thanks, Claudio. Actually I meant to reply earlier that after still not having any success I decided to reinstall VMS and that fixed the problem. Your comment about the registry entry may well be correct but unfortunately I had reinstalled VMS before reading your reply so I guess we'll never know. It's still working fine this evening.

Thanks for reporting it back.

Will mark this thread as solved but leave it open: if someone else has the same issue they could jump in ;)
