Most soundfonts use 44100hz, 48000hz will introduce SRC….

Well, that default value is there from the very beginning… and I'm afraid of changing something that “worked” for such a long time 😉.

I agree but, AFAIK, modern audio chipsets do these recurring conversions in hardware…

Given that you set VMS Default Sample Rate to 44100 to avoid VMS SRC that means to avoid Windows SRC you must set Windows Default Sample Rate to 44100 HZ as well The fact that 44100 is superior for you implies to me that your Windows Default Sample Rate is 44100 If it isn't 44100 I would suggest setting it to 44100
