Invalid access to memory location?

I am getting this error trying to run VirtualMIDI Synth on my laptop (see picture). OS is windows XP Pro x64. Any ideas on how to resolve this would be most helpful. thank you.

WinXP is out of support by a long time, both from MS and from CoolSoft 😉.
Additionally, VMS was never tested on the x64 version of Windows XP...

Anyway it could be something interfering with its memory management, like an antivirus.
You could try to disable any of them you've installed.

Re: Invalid access to memory location?

I know that making my first post here be a necrobump is really dumb, but I have the same issue (same OS as OP). Clicking off of the error results in another error, being that VMS (version 2.9.3) timed out enumerating x86 MIDI devices. x86 apps are still able to use MIDI fine, but God is that error annoying as hell.

I do not have any antivirus (this retro setup machine is not connected to the internet)

In addition, /NoExecute=AlwaysOff in boot.ini (DEP, Data Execution Prevention), as a further measure I tried.

I don't have anything which accesses memory in an unorthodox way.

For anyone else who stumbles upon this thread, just use VMS 1.x.
