Midi game issues

I'd like to start off by with a compliment before getting to the issue. This piece of software is awsome. Changing a tune by changing the soundfont does spice them up, which is what is great about about VirtualMIDISynth.

Here's the problem, though. Some games that use midis (example M.U.G.E.N.) have an issue with not responding when trying to close them (as in the window remains on screen after you close it and you get a message about it not responding.) If you want to take the time to look into this issue, you can get Version 1.0 or 1.1 beta of M.U.G.E.N. here to test it out: http://elecbyte.com/ The issue comes after playing a midi by setting one up in the def file of a screenpack or a stage.

The same problem happens with the Eduke32 port of Duke Nukem 3D. To replicate it, launch Eduke32, load a level, then try to quit.

Re: Midi game issues

I was able to reproduce the bug on my development machine.
It's due to a deadlock while releasing BASS resources.

Just working on it, stay tuned...

Re: Midi game issues

Just released version 1.11.0 that should fix the issue.

Please report if it works correctly.

I didn't test it extensively, but it doesn't seem to work. Perhaps it's Eduke32 that's causing problems with VirtualMIDISynth, not the opposite.

I'll do more testing.

I used Eduke32 for my testing, latest version: started Eduke32, pressed Enter till the game starts then ESC and Y to quit.

  • Eduke + VMS 1.10.1: Eduke hangs when exiting
  • Eduke + VMS 1.11.0: Eduke exits properly

I have tested with GZDoom, DXX-Rebirth, Age of Empires 1 and EDuke32. The games are closing proper now. Good Job :).

1.11.0 was retired due to a regression causing hangs on other MIDI players.
I'm just working on a fix and will release 1.11.1 soon.
