Errors installing & fails to open (Win 8.1)

Hi there.  I've tried installing this three times, now, each time showing the following error twice during install and again when I try to open it and the program fails to start...

" An error occurred: The type initializer for 'System.Diagnostics.Process' threw an exception. "

Am I doing something wrong here or is it relying on other dependencies? VirtualMIDISynth is already installed.

Thanks

Re: Errors installing & fails to open (Win 8.1)

It seems that your system MIDIMapper is not able to start its proxy executable (MIDIMapper.ConfiguratorProxy.exe).
This is usually due to some antivirus/antimalware that prevents it from running (the exe is not signed and, being it installed in a sensible system folder, some of them "get crazy").

This executable is used on 64bit systems to get informations about x86 windows sublayer.

  • open a command prompt in CoolSoft MIDIMapper installation folder (usually C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MIDIMapper or C:\Windows\System32\MIDIMapper)
  • run it manually with this command line (parameter is case sensitive): MIDIMapper.ConfiguratorProxy.exe /GetMIDIDevices

You should get a list of installed x86 MIDI devices.

If not, please post the output here.

The setup always skips two files for me.

Some antiviruses mark the two exe files as malware.
I can only assure you that I do not write viruses and malwares for a living ;)

Please try to disable your antivirus and/or send the file to your antivirus provider for them to fix the false positive report.

I can't get over this, sorry.

I did deactivate my virus scanner but still.
But I noticed the installer created a recovery folder on my desktop, in which the skipped files are located.
I just can't copy them into SysWOW64 now matter what I do, Windows keeps preventing me from accessing it.

Windows should ask you "Admin" permission to copy them to protected SysWOW64; answering Yes you should be allowed to.
I still think there's something else preventing this copy.

Could you try copy those files after starting Windows in safe mode?

I tried and successfully copied the files and everything seems to be working now.
But i only have the choice to select the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth.
Is this normal?

Re: Errors installing & fails to open (Win 8.1)

Downloaded the new version of VirtualMIDISynth now.
Seems to be the solution, since I can change the default midi device in there.

Edit: Oh yes! It works now! =)

My Avira virus scanner blocked everything very aggressively by the way, which was a little annoying.
