Issue with installing VirtualMIDISynth and MidiMapper ...

Hello, having an issue with installing VirtualMIDISynth and MidiMapper on Windows 7 Pro 64bit. (Desktop computer)
Details below.

CoolSoft_VirtualMIDISynth_2.12.1 - Would not install.

Error message: "The version of the file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running.
Check your computer's information to see whether you need an x86 (32bit) or x64 (64-bit) version
of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

I have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Shouldn't that be compatible with the program?

CoolSoft_VirtualMIDISynth_2.11.2 - Installed without issue.

CoolSoft_MIDIMapper_2.0.3 - Would not install .. didn't try older version.

Error message: "The version of the file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running.
Check your computer's information to see whether you need an x86 (32bit) or x64 (64-bit) version
of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

Shouldn't Windows 7 Pro 64 bit be compatible with the program?

=========================================
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (Installed on C: drive)

System Manufacturer:  Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model:  GA-MA785GT-UD3H

SMBIOS Version - 2.4
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) - 8.00 GB
Monitor - Dell - U2414H  (1920x1080 - default)
Video Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
==========================================

I would like to test/use VirtualMIDISynth with a game and the Fatboy soundfont.  Is there way to make fatboy
the "default" soundfont in vms? In other words - change out soundfonts and make different ones the
default - to see what works best?

Thank You!

Re: Issue with installing VirtualMIDISynth and MidiMapper ...

Is your OS fully updated?

Win7 could actually not receive all of the needed updates if it misses KB4490628.
Please check that you've installed it (through the Windows Update control panel applet) and, if not:

  • download it manually from MS Catalog here
  • install it with network disabled/disconnected (to let it complete faster)
  • reboot and start a new updates search through the Windows Update control panel applet

EDIT: I've moved the thread to Bug reports forum

Another first-step check is to run sfc tool to validate your OS integrity:

  • open a command prompt (cmd.exe) with admin rights
  • run sfc:
    sfc.exe /scannow

Wait for it to terminate and check if your OS is OK.

Re: Issue with installing VirtualMIDISynth and MidiMapper ...

Hello and sorry about the delay getting back to you. Appreciate the help!

I installed KB4490628, restarted and did the updates and there was 3.
All installed now.

Rebooted and ran sfc /scannow in a admin terminal. It reported there was errors,
but it couldn't fix them. I restarted and did the same (twice) in safe mode.

I ran 5 different scanners and nothing was found. I have malwarebytes premium, winpatrol and Windows firewall.
Probably not the best of defenses, but not plagued with virus infections.  Used - Malwarebytes, Sophos Virus Removal Tool,
McAfee Rootkit remover, Kaspersky tddskiller, McAfee Stinger. Clean, but I may had issues in the past. This is an old
installation. This is a pretty old Machine .. Like 11 years old now. The harddrive was dying on me at one time and Windows
warned me to backup quickly. I did so, and less then a day later it died. I rolled the image back on a new drive. Been going
ever since. I think that was 4 years ago.

Anyway, I'll uninstall VirtualMIDISynth and download the newer version. Will report back.

I've attached a copy of the log file. I know there was some stuff that couldn't be repaired.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Issue with installing VirtualMIDISynth and MidiMapper ...

Hello, coolsoft!

1st of all thanks for your great software, it’s very cool!

Suddenly, I’ve got the same problem as the topic starter.

I tried to install the CoolSoft_VirtualMIDISynth_2.12.4 on Win 7 Home edition 64-bit system and got the message "The version of the file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's information to see whether you need an x86 (32bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

Following your recommendations, I've checked if the KB4490628 is installed and validated OS integrity by “sfc /scannow” command, but everything is OK.

What else can I do to install the program?

Thanks in advance.

Michael.

It's me again, and I must to say sorry :)

It was just an error when downloading the installation file, I've found this occasionally. And when I've downloaded the right file, the installation started well and finished OK.

Once more thanks for the great soft!
