Please don't forget the 2MB and 4MB wavesets to be converted to SF2!

If you add a few original game midi files that you can suggest here so I can test the Soundfont, I can work on it better.

And so here you can have a new and nice version-3.

:D

Re: ECW soundfont support - was: Donation for CoolSoft as a thanksgiving

Would love to thank the folks in this thread for their interest/support in the ecw format in 2019 :)

I am a midi enthusiast (collect, listen, use in RPG Maker etc).
The sound for the 8MB ecw is mesmerizing to say the least.
The sf2 you provided sounds really close, minus some reverb and strike (not sure if those are the correct terms) when I say strike, I'm referring to it sounding like a drum is being hit hard.
ATM I'm very satisfied with this conversion you provided, but in any case, a major bonus if ecw were officially implemented.

You can hear the official ecw in action here versus what windows stock midi sounds like... and against the 1GB sound font.
You can really hear that POW sound, but the sf2 version is a pwop sound, not as intense.

Good job folks :)

Unfinished works are like orphaned children.
I've completed the file as much as I can.

I don't know if it's identical with the original file.
At least the samples are the same. All of them were tuned. And loop bugs fixed.
The instruments were corrected according to the other soundfonts of the same company.
I hope you will like it.

Maybe if I work on it a little more, I can publish it on my site also.

Well in the meantime take this shitty conversion and fix it up.
It's broken as hell and none of the tuning is correct.

ECW soundfonts have an unique great sound.

Currently VirtualMIDIsynth seems to use one method: BASSMIDI library
Maybe you can add or programm a second interface to VirtualMIDIsynth (beside the existing BASSMIDI library) which additionally supports ECW file loading.

Maybe/hopefully the last paypal donations I did this year and last year could support you to realize this ECW feature in future. :) (y)

Well, BASS libs do a great and invaluable job in MIDI rendering and, honestly speaking, I won't ever be able to emulate their quality, not even being close to them.

I'm an "expert" in Windows Device Drivers, Windows MIDI Subsystem, Windows driver/software packaging and Windows GUI rendering; those skills let VirtualMIDISynth be an easy to use product that just works out of the box for the average user.
Supporting a new soundfont format is something out of my league.

Will ask Un4seen (BASS author) if this is something they're going to support in the future; if so, be sure that I'll add ECW support to VMS too ;)

Re: ECW soundfont support - was: Donation for CoolSoft as a thanksgiving

There are sf2 soundfonts prepared and originally created by Creative and EMU. Maybe you'd like to try:

http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=14

(EMU General MIDI SoundFont Collection) : 2MBGMGS.SF2, 4MBGM.SF2, 4MBGMSFX.SF2, 8MBGM.SF2, 8MBGMSFX.SF2 (There are sound fonts made by others with the same or similar names; but they are not genuine.)

Of course, the internal processors, dsps, mod. processes and effects of the soundcards don't function in the same way as the soundfont synths. But maybe you like it.

I apologize in advance, if it is irrelevant.

ECW soundfont support - was: Donation for CoolSoft as a thanksgiving

Hi,

while experimenting with MIDI related stuff...:

a) MIDI mapper in W2K, XP, Win7/8 --> information, tools and stuff and
how 32bit / 64bit apps "see"/detect the MIDI mappers/device in the different windows operating systems

b) (because it was not done before) capturing TYRIAN MIDI outputs to seperate MIDI files (details here: https://www.google.com/search?q=tyrian+borg)

(open the midi file properties in "Winamp" or in "1by1" (while using in_midi.dll from Winamp) or check the Tyrian MIDI file properties in Windows 9x/ME/W2K.... there is a little surprise ;-) )

c) MIDI messages and a selfmade MIDI cable (which I later did send to a friend --> http://www.mirsoft.info/gamemids-ripping-guide.php)
d) MIDI over TCP / IP / NET
e) MIDI-OX , MIDI YOKE
f) Hairless MIDI<->Serial Bridge
g) MUNT, WinGRoove, BASSMIDI driver

...I also tried VirtualMIDISynth and I really like it especially on "new" operating systems - e.g. while playing good old DOS games or playing with my external keybard.

"New" --> referring lost MIDI features like selecting a default MIDI device inside Windows Vista and later etc...
I also like VirtualMIDISynth on new generic low-cost sound devices / onboard sound devices (Intel etc...) where only the "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" is available.

So, now I hope you could understand, why I feel that supporting VirtualMIDISynth with a "small" ;) PayPal donation last and this year was/is a good decision.

I just like VirtualMIDISynth and I just liked it to do a donation.

Here are some informations about ECW:

(google) key words:
2MEG_R_2.ECW
CTSYN.INI
DOSTEST.ECW, EAPCI2M.ECW, EAPCI4M.ECW, EAPCI8M.ECW, 2MG4.ECW

Furthermore realising a virtual OPL2/OPL3-MIDI driver would be great.

Thank you very much.

Thank you very much for your donation, really appreciated.

Since this is one of the largest donations I've received so far, I'd
like to know - if you'd like to share - some more info about how you use
VMS and MIDIMapper and how they helped in your job/hobby.

Anyway feel free to post on the forum your suggestions about missing
features you'd like to be implemented in the future.

Best regards
