Unable to install CoolSoft MIDIMapper

Hi there.

So, I've used Virtual MidiMapper for a while now, excellent program!

I'm having a lot of problems installing it on my current Windows-installation though, even though I've used the program previously, on the same computer-hardware, in Windows 10 as well.

Every time I try to install the program, the installer simply fails, shutting down without even an error-message. Here's what I've done so far:

1. Run installer in admin-mode. (no effect, same outcome)

2. Run installer in Win 8 compatibility-mode (no effect, same outcome)

3. Disable driver signature enforcement, then run the installer. (no effect, same outcome)

4. Run the installer in safe-mode (right-click admin as well) - produces this error:
"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application."

5. Disable real-time protection in Antivirus (Avira) then run installer (no effect, same outcome)

6. Run chkdsk /f /r to see if I have any disk-errors (see #4) - ran it on both C: and F: (where the installer is located)
(no effect, same outcome)

7. Uninstall and reinstall VC++ Redist packages (see #4) (no effect, same outcome)
Am I missing an essential package here? Please, have a look at the screenshot.

8. Run process-monitor and see what might ail the installer - it has multiple "name not found" -errors, but I honestly
can't understand what they mean.

9. Ran it through Dependencies (equivalent to Dependency Walker) - it comes up as being something related to NTDLL.DLL?

Windows Sysinfo32 mentions errors with NTDLL.DLL as well, so that might be a clue of some kind.

If there is some further information you need, for us to solve this issue, then I am all the more willing to give it
to you - tell me what to do, and we will solve this.

Thank you for an excellent program which I hope to be able to use again soon.

I have included screenshots and log-files of various types in this post, to give detail on my account above.
(I have prepared a whole msinfo32 file if you deem it necessary, but I would prefer to hold out on that for a while)

Computer specs:

OS: Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 1809
CPU: Intel Core i3 8100
GPU: nVidia GTX 1060 6gb
Audio: BEHRINGER UMC 404HD

I have also installed the added software from Behringer as well as Loop-Midi, in case those could cause conflicts.

Re: Unable to install Midimapper

Thanks for your detailed bug report.

Based on this previous thread (https://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/forum/post/3489#post3489) I'm pretty sure that the bug is related to some incompatibilities of NSIS (the tool I use to build setups) and newer Windows10 versions.

I'vattached here a test version of CoolSoft_MIDIMapper_1.0.0 built with a newer NSIS version (like the one that fixed the issue in the thread above).
Please test it and report if it works, so I can release a final and "official" version.

UPDATE: version 1.1.0 released here, attachment removed

SUCCESS!! : O

That's all it needed! It now installed just like previously, and I could chose different midi-devices.

I'm having a hard time setting it up with my soundcard though, but that probably has more to do with user-limitations than anything else.

But yes, thank you for fixing the installer! = ) It now works as it should - no problems installing.

Thanks for an awesome program, free of charge, and excellent support!

Thanks for reporting your test result.

Will publish ver. 1.1.0 with the new installer ASAP (still need to check a couple of things;))

Cheers

Re: Unable to install Midimapper

Hi, I just installed Midimapper 1.1.0.
When I finished the installation I found the error message that appears on the attachment file.

"An error ocurred while setting update checquer autostar at logon: No existe ningún valor con ese nombre." That sentence means: It doesn't exist any valour with that name.

Despite the error message, the software seems to work correctly.

I am running Windows 10 Pro. I still had VirtualMIDISynth version 2.60 installed. Updating right now.

Re: Unable to install Midimapper

Not able to reproduce it, sorry.

Anyway, as far as I can understand, it had an issue setting the autostart registry key to let MIDIMapper automatically check for updates...

The update check feature is configured in 2 places:

  • file C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MIDIMapper\MIDIMapper.Configurator.conf
here MIDIMapper stores check frequency, as you configure it in its Options dialog.
Please try to configure a check frequency other than Never and check CheckFrequency key in the file above.
  • registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
This key is set only if you configure a check frequency other than Never and silently runs update checker at user logon.
Please try to configure a check frequency other than Never and check if CoolSoft MIDIMapper Update Checker value is set.

Hope you could check them out and report your findings.

Re: Unable to install Midimapper

Hi
I just changed the frequency from never to 30 days.
Checked the conf file and the registry and they seem correct.
So maybe my error message was because the frequency was set to never.
