VirtualMIDISynth

VirtualMIDISynth is a software MIDI synthesizer implemented as a Windows multimedia user driver, accessible as a standard MIDI Out device.

It works on Windows XP (SP3) / Vista (SP1) / 7 (SP1) / 8.x / 10 / 11 (both x86 and x64), and is based on the great BASS library from un4seen.

MIDIMapper

CoolSoft MIDIMapper is the missing (and needed) MIDI Mapper for Windows 8, 10, 11.

It installs as a MIDI Output device and forces itself as MIDI device #0 (read below for an explanation).
It can be managed with a configuration panel accessible from Control Panel or its Start menu icon.

CoolSoft MIDIMapper is not only a configurator for the well known MIDI registry keys (because that "hack" stopped working from Windows 8, see below) but a full alternative to (the now missing) Microsoft MIDI Mapper.

What happened to MIDI Mapper on Windows 8 (and later)?

The number of help requests I'm getting from Windows 8 users trying to use MIDI programs is growing day by day.
I've done some research and tests on the arguments, but the available documentation is really "poor" (confirming my feeling about Microsoft intention to drop it out).
This is what I've find out.

Let's get back to Windows XP era, where MIDI was "exposed" to the public and it had its own place into "Sound and Multimedia" control panel application.

VirtualMIDISynth 1.4.0 released (at last)

VirtualMIDISynth 1.4.0 was finally released today.
It's a long waited release, preceeded by a long list of betas.

The main new feature of 1.4.x branch is the addition of 64 bits MIDI clients support, such as new DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) like Cakewalk Sonar X1, MediaPlayer classic x64 and all .NET AnyCPU-compiled softwares (which are JIT compiled to x64 on x64 OS).

The configurator is also deeply changed: a new tabbed interface now has lot of new options like:

H264/AVC Level Editor

H264LevelEditor is a free and small tool to edit an H264/AVC encoded video stream and change IDC profile level (see here for detailed info about IDC levels).
Works both on MKV containers and raw H264 streams (*.h264, *.264, *.ts or any other file containing H264 encoded video).
It's a portable software, no need to install it, and comes in two flavours:

  • Graphical (GUI):
Use it if you need to edit a single or few files.
  • Command line (CLI):
It has the same features of the graphical version and can also work on multiple files.
You could also include it into your custom conversion scripts.

Collegare un lettore DVD via USB all'Ellion HMR-351H

EDIT (17/10/2009): aggiornati gli script per gestire l'eject automatico del supporto.

Qualche tempo fa ho acquistato un Hantech Markus 750, un "mediarecorder" clone del più famoso Ellion HMR-351H e del Medley 2+.
