It could be that System Shock doesn't use MIDI layer at all but goes straight to DirectX devices (and MSGS as fallback).
Is there a trial version available to test on my side?
If yes, does it have the same behavior?

System Shock Enhanced Edition is the exact reason I was asking for CoolSoft MIDIMapper, and it worked for me. I haven't tried it since beta2 though.
SS:EE definiely works by opening MIDI device #0. I know this because just before CoolSoft MIDIMapper was released, I had figured out how to hex edit the .exe to change the device number.

Beta3 changed the way driver configures itself on the system: from MIDI device to MIDI mapper.
Maybe SS is filtering mappers out...
Could you please confirm that Beta4 doesn't work with SS?

Hi guys, thanks for the surprisingly fast feedback, indeed, beta2 addresses the issue (tks HunterZ), it works out of the box, but beta 3 and 4 do not.
Claudio, maybe the software could have two modes of oeration then, to cover all possibilities, one using device the other using mapper. I'll do more tests with SS and other games and softwares and will keep you posted.

I can also confirm that CoolSoft MIDIMapper beta4 is not routing MIDI from System Shock Enhanced Edition to my USB MIDI adapter. I'm hearing the music from the Microsoft GS synth instead.

Now I need to check if, after beta3 and beta4 changes:
- CMM is used by SS but does not route correctly to the selected device
- CMM is not used at all and SS output is going straight to MSGS

A setup flag to change CMM behavior could be the final solution, but I need to test it on my side...

Is there some debugging output (like a log file or console window) that I can enable in CMM to check if it's being activated by the game?

Version 0.9.0-beta5 has been released:
v.0.9.0-beta5 - 2016-07-28 -------------------------- - Reverted driver behavior to pre-beta3: it now registers itself as "midi device" and not as "midimapper" anymore.

Hi, I confirm beta 5 working flawlessly with System Shock, later I'll try dosbox and other softwares.
